Stringless
The female polyphonic group STRINGLESS is closely interested in the sound produced by the human body and especially the human voice replacing all the musical instruments. Polyphony as a pattern suits like a glove in a number of songs but not in others. In the last case, an unexpected but perfectly matching instrumentation occurs. In their stage performances STRINGLESS use music material from the Greek and non-Greek music tradition. It’s a musical journey from the mountains of Caucasus and Pindos to the soaring heights of the Black Sea and the Balkan peninsula. A significant part of their repertoire consists of songs that come from the multicultural background of the city where they live and perform, Thessaloniki, as well as operattas from the first decades of the 19th century, contemporary theatrical music, retro songs from the 30s and last but not least rebetiko, Tsitsani’s songs and famous music motives from the Greek movies of the 60s. The music group STRINGLESS started performing in 2012 and since then it has made appearances in various music stages, theatres, festivals and artistic events in Greece and abroad.
