The Von Trapps
The grandchildren of Werner von Trapp (the second oldest son of Georg and Agathe von Trapp, who served as the inspirations for the iconic play and film The Sound of Music), the von Trapps are a versatile musical group made up of Sofie, Melanie, Amanda, and August von Trapp. The siblings took to the family business early, performing in the 1997 production of the Sound of Music, and later appearing on television (The View, The Today Show, The Oprah Winfrey Show), and with numerous symphonies (Boston Pops, Atlanta, Detroit, Indianapolis, Baltimore, Philadelphia, and Cincinnati). They are frequent collaborators with the genre-bending chamber pop group Pink Martini, with whom they issued the 2014 LP Dream a Little Dream. Drawing influences from the likes of the Beach Boys, Fleet Foxes, and Françoise Hardy, the Portland, Oregon-based quartet released an EP of original songs, Dancing in Gold, in 2015. Produced by Blind Pilot's Israel Nebeker, it was the first in a planned series of three EPs, with the other two scheduled to drop over the span of the next two years. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi
