walang masabi kung 'di "Kumusta ka?"Meeting at the right moment is different from actually being right for each other... Bakit kasi may mga taong pumapasok sa relasyon nang hindi pa nakaka-move on? Mga leche kayo! Kaya minsan, it’s better to be single than to be loved half-heartedly.Always Yours, Never Mine follows Apollo (Joshua Garcia) and Luna (Julia Barretto), two people who keep meeting at different stages of their lives but never quite get the chance to make their love work. Or maybe saying they never had the chance isn’t entirely accurate. They did. But circumstances, timing, and sometimes their own choices kept them from taking it.Alam mong may pinaghuhugutan...Performance-wise, the film delivers. Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto are both great. Damang-dama mo ang bawat pagbitaw ng linya. May hugot, may sakit, may bigat. Their chemistry works as always... Alam mong may pinaghuhugutan.Siyempre, hindi nagpahuli si Bianca Umali as Gaea. She’s a revelation here. First time ko siyang mapanood in this kind of role, and I think this is also the first time I’ve heard her deliver this much dialogue in English, and pak! The girl is so versatile. Give her more projects, please!Nag-align pero hindi nagtugma...I actually like the film’s central concept, particularly the eclipse as a metaphor for Apollo and Luna’s relationship. An eclipse happens when celestial bodies briefly align, creating something beautiful precisely because the moment cannot last. Apollo and Luna are somewhat like that. Their paths keep crossing, and for brief moments, everything seems to align. But perhaps meeting at the right moment is different from actually being right for each other. There’s a potentially beautiful film somewhere in that idea. Unfortunately, for me, it never fully reaches it. Parang gustong lumipad pero hindi talaga naka-takeoff. Or perhaps more fittingly, the film keeps waiting for that perfect alignment, but the eclipse never becomes as breathtaking as it could have been. When the man gets to be problematic...Character-wise, medyo napa-hmmm ako. The story seems to benefit Apollo the most while leaving both women agrabyado. He is obviously the more problematic person in this whole situation, yet there are moments when the film seems more interested in making us understand him than in fully confronting how his actions affect Luna and Gaea. At times, he even seems to gaslight both women. And my God, I felt bad for Gaea. 😭 Honestly, the title feels like it belongs to her more than anyone else. Imagine loving someone who is physically with you while part of him is still emotionally somewhere else. Bakit kasi may mga taong pumapasok sa relasyon nang hindi pa nakaka-move on? Mga leche kayo! 😭 Kaya minsan, it’s better to be single than to be loved half-heartedly. GAEA DESERVES MORE!Paulit-ulit daw ang pelikulang pilipino?Story-wise, the film also feels reminiscent of old-school Filipino romantic dramas. There were even plot points that reminded me of Imortal starring Vilma Santos. And that made me think about the common criticism that Filipino films keep repeating the same stories. But telling a familiar story isn’t really the problem. We can revisit the same themes and tropes as long as we find a fresh way of telling them. In this case, instead of taking its interesting concept somewhere new, the film falls back on a familiar formula, seemingly to deliver the hugot, kilig, and drama expected from a Joshlia reunion. There’s nothing wrong with fan service, but the story should serve the film, not just the pairing.Does everything need to be said? The film is also packed with quotable lines. And while there’s nothing wrong with that, there came a point when it started feeling like a collection of hugot quotes waiting to be posted online. Instead of allowing certain emotions and ideas to emerge naturally from the characters, the dialogue sometimes explains exactly what we are supposed to feel. Medyo spoon-fed.Kumusta ka? Okay naman pero...Also, the theme song, Ice Seguerra's version of the classic Kumusta Ka, while it's great version of the song and LSS ako ngayon but maybe it’s just me, I’m not entirely convinced that it suits the film. Instead of giving the story a timeless romantic feel, it somehow makes the film feel more old-fashioned, which probably doesn’t help when the story itself already reminds me of older Filipino romantic dramas.Always Yours, Never Mind...Ultimately, I feel like Always Yours, Never Mine sabotages its own potential. In trying to deliver the romance, the hugot, the drama, and perhaps some fan service all at once, it becomes messier than it needs to be.Nasayangan lang talaga ako because the concept is genuinely interesting. The eclipse metaphor alone could have carried a much more emotionally devastating film. The story was there, and the performances certainly were, but it never hit me as hard as I expected it to.Fans of Joshua and Julia will probably find plenty to enjoy here. But craft-wise, hmmm Always yours, never mind... 2026 Pinoy Movies Ranked
