I applaud director Kiki Chow and the whole crew for making this film - Deadline is banned from Hong Kong and Kiki Chow faces jail time if he ever returns to his home country. Yet, he goes out into this world to show us how the school system and pressure society in Hong Kong, and many other Asian countries, force people into desperation and despair. It asks us the question "why do all we expect all our students to be exactly the same while we are all so different".Because, let's be fair, if everyone is expected to strive so hard to become a doctor or lawyer, who will do all the orher jobs?Focussing on the students talents rather than focussing on grades and punishing the ones who fail to reach extremely high expectations, seems to be the message here. That is message is food for thought.Deadline is a well made and thrilling film that kept me on the edge of my seat for the entire runtime. Not a film that I would rewatch soon probably, but a film that will stick in my mind for a long time.
