Marilyn tricked me into watching a Western 😭
Mitchum basically sexually assaults Monroe and then kidnaps her (but the dirty prospectors are sooo much worse?). The Native Americans are faceless terrors. The river is so cheezily portrayed, so obviously fake as to be laughable, but the funniest moment is when someone gets shot in the back. It isn't intended to be, but holy hell, it's absurd. December count: 81/100
An itinerant farmer and his young son are forced to team up with a saloon singer to navigate a dangerous river after her husband betrays them during the Pacific Northwest gold rush.
The film was directed by Otto Preminger in 1954, a filmmaker known for his influential work in mid-century American studio cinema.
The film is considered a notable artifact of mid-century cinema, widely recognized for the star pairing of its leads despite modern criticisms regarding its dated effects and narrative tone.
