Robin Mullarkey
Underground καλλιτέχνης nu jazz
“Purveyor of finest low notes” Robin Mullarkey is best known as bassist to a generation of progressive and diverse English artists including Zero 7, Eska, Roisin Murphy, Natalie Williams, Richard Spaven, Laura Mvula, John Newman and more recently Leon Vynehall, Steve Wilson and even Quincy Jones. But Robin is also known for his involvement with thte UK broken beat movement, producing two ground breaking LPs fusing his academic jazz background with the contemporary dance aesthetic in the band Brotherly. The music appealed to “muso'” and soul loving crate diggers alike and has won him international accolades for his challenging yet approachable arrangements, incorporating woozy tempo shifts and cheeky harmonic devices. Rob has been collaborating with Jacob Collier on impromtu late night live trio shows for several years, exploring the contemporary songbook while stretching the realms of harmony and rhythm, and introducing the vocal harmoniser as a true vehicle for Jacob’s astounding improvising skills.
