Atoom

Vojtech Vesely (Atoom) is a Czech musician and sound artist, whose work with long decaying tones has been central to the development of the Drifting Intervals technique. Drawing inspiration from the works of avant-garde composers like La Monte Young and experimental pioneers such as Terry Riley, William Basinski and Pauline Oliveros, Vesely engaged with drones, tape loops, and deep reverberation. This exploration culminated in the development of his concept known as Drifting Intervals, a technique characterized by the gradual fusion of multiple tones or intervals, creating a cohesive ambient texture. To illustrate the core principle of Drifting Intervals, Vesely suggests imagining random notes being slowly blended together, like rubbing different colors of paint until they merge into a new shade. Beyond music, Vesely is involved in environmental initiatives through his collaboration with Brian Eno and his charity EarthPercent, helping to raise awareness about sustainability in the arts.
