Miguel Girão
Underground καλλιτέχνης traditional music
Originally from the Portuguese Midlands and now based in Glasgow, Scotland, Miguel is a musician exploring the musical traditions of different corners of the world and fusing them with hints of classical and contemporary aesthetics. His most recent projects include, a 5-piece band, named Tern, which links the musical traditions of Scotland and the Scandinavia Peninsula, and an exciting Piano and Guitar duo with Amy Laurenson fusing music from Shetland, Mainland Scotland, Scandinavia, and Eastern Europe. The duo is now working with Live Music Now Scotland since March 2023. Miguel is also collaborating with Edinburgh based Singer songwriter Eve Simpson and producer Nicholas Haquin. More recently Miguel joined the Amy Laurenson Quartet. He has also collaborated with North American Fiddle and Cello duo Jocelyn Petit and Ellen Gira. Miguel is now working on the release of his next work “The Northern Isles Suite”, a suite of music for solo guitar comprised of traditional melodies from Orkney and Shetland. The making of this work was partially funded by the Martyn Bennett Memorial Trust and is due to be released earlier in 2024.
