Ilan Eshkeri
Καλοδουλεμένος καλλιτέχνης soundtrack
Ilan Eshkeri is a composer whose work centres on emotional narrative through evolving musical forms. Working within a post-minimal aesthetic, his music is built from repeating melodic material that gradually transforms through harmonic layering and rhythmic variation, allowing emotional states to emerge rather than be imposed. His musical language reflects a background spanning contrasting traditions. He trained classically on violin from an early age, later teaching himself electric guitar with a punk-rock sensibility. His synaesthesia, in which sound and colour are perceived together, informs a close relationship between aural and visual aesthetics. Eshkeri has created work across live performance, theatre, ballet, film, television, and video games, applying the same narrative focus across each medium. His large-scale concert and site-specific works have been presented at major institutions including the Royal Albert Hall, Tuileries Gardens of the Louvre, Sadler’s Wells, Rambert Ballet, and New York City Center. Some projects were realised through access granted by ESA and NASA. His screen and interactive scores include cult films such as Layer Cake and Stardust, while Coriolanus contributed to a broader shift in contemporary scoring. His work for The Sims 4, a global cultural phenomenon, has had lasting influence in popular culture. Eshkeri’s work has been recognised with major international awards and nominations including the Emmy, BAFTA, and Ivor Novello Awards.
