Playroots

Playroots is the artistic name of Aníbal Valenzuela (40), a multi-instrumentalist musician, DJ and Chilean producer. His musical path started around the age of 10 when he found an old organ in his house and started playing. Keyboardist by training with piano studies, he plays different instruments such as the hangdrum, balafón, kalimba, djembe, in addition to string and flute instruments, all present in his musical compositions. His constant musical search led him to extend his way to the turntables, developing in parallel his DJ facet for more than 15 years, playing in the main clubs of Santiago until this day. His influences come from black music, which he has merged with electronic rhythms typical of downtempo with nuances of Africa and Latin America, creating his own sound that can be recognized in his musical productions, DJ sets and Live sets. His first EP "PAYE" was released by the Latin American label New Latam Beats, receiving very good feedback regarding his musical proposal of hangdrum, electronics, African and Andean instruments. Last year he released the single "El poder en mí" and recently released a new single called "Sabor de Jungla" as part of the compilation "This is Folktronica" of the label Ritmos del Sur. In the upcoming months he will release a new EP called Tribal Sounds by the renowned label Café de Anatolia.
