DJ Fabsabs

Hong Kong-based DJ Fabsabs' energetic sets, leftfield song choices, and questionable drunken moments have cemented his name over the years. Starting as a radio Dj playing punk and emo, he took a key role in nights such as Lufuki Stink, Secret Walls HK, Tropical Madness, Eclectic Disco, Cantomania, performing live with his band The Borscht Brothers, and spinning at LGBTQ+ clubs. Having reached a level of notoriety, a series of setbacks followed: Fabsabs was kicked off a show in Dubai for unruly behavior, followed by a new year's party in Changsha that was shut down by local authorities. A scheduled appearance at famed Hong Kong festival Clockenflap was cancelled due to political unrest, and the pandemic began to bring Hong Kong's club scene to grinding halt. Faced with the prospect of a declining career and having fallen into a creative rut, Fabsabs went back to his first love of radio presenting at Eaton Hotel, and promoting local artists. With releases by the likes of FINGERGAP and Pressure Kay on his Holunjeng Records imprint, Fabsabs put out his first EPs featuring his eclectic style. On top of pivoting into music production, he has promoted the likes of Zack Calixtus, Govi Dhaliwal, TripleSix, Aspect852, Sky Limbu, Mydas Murray, Metic, Retox'D, and Arches either on radio or at curated music nights. In July 2022, he joined Nestival in the South of France, organised by Pomegranate Sounds, an international crew Fabsabs has long been part of. Let's see what comes next.
