Alex Hirlian

With an incredible list of accolades under his belt, Alex Hirlian's talent raises no questions. Winner of the prestigious National Jazz Awards in 2018 and recent ARIA nominee, Hirlian has spent much of the last several years embedded in the Australian music scene as a go-to drummer and educator. Alex is recognised internationally for being in bands such as ‘Brekky Boy’ who have toured the European jazz festival circuit many times as well as Canada. Show highlights include showcasing at Jazzahead 2022, running the Montreux Jazz Festival Jam in 2022 and performing at Montreal Jazz festival 2023 just to name a few. The band has also gone viral on social media with their ‘play this at your next gig’ series, where they ruin your favourite songs forever. Alex is also in the Prog-Jazz group Josh Meader Trio (JMT) run by virtuoso Josh Meader who’s made a name for himself extensively through his online content. The band also showcased at Jazzahead 2023 and are releasing their first full album this year with expected european tour dates to follow. Alex along with fellow National Jazz awards winner Matthew Thomson have also released their new album with their own Modern Jazz quintet called ‘Tourismo’ through ABC Jazz titled ‘Torque’, which has also received an ARIA nomination in 2024.
