Out of Chicago’s vibrant jazz scene, multi-instrumentalist, composer, curator, activist and educator Isaiah Collier presents Collier Plays Coltrane in celebration of the centenary of John Coltrane’s birth. Collier revisits and reimagines the Coltrane legacy through a contemporary lens. His ensemble’s acclaimed 2021 release Cosmic Transitions earned a five-star DownBeat review and multiple Album of the Year accolades. Recorded at Rudy Van Gelder’s legendary studio on Coltrane’s birthday, the work paid homage to Coltrane’s spiritual and musical vision while pushing decisively forward. In Collier Plays Coltrane, this lineage is brought vividly into the present, blending spiritual intensity, expansive improvisation and forward-thinking energy in a powerful tribute to one of jazz’s most transformative figures.
