Mamady Kouyate is one of Guinea's most renowned guitarists, inheriting a legacy of griots and pioneering the introduction of the guitar to Guinean traditions. First gaining prominence in the 1970s with national bands during the Authenticité movement, he later toured extensively with the legendary Bembeya Jazz. After relocating to the US in the early 2000s, he formed the Mandingo Ambassadors to channel the classic 70s Sylliphone sound of Guinea.
