Alaï y las Marionetas is a living, breathing performance world where music, puppet theater, and ceremony intertwine. Singer-songwriter, Alaï, tends the altar as her full string band — harp, guitar, violin, and upright bass — builds a soundscape from which songs arise. Woven through this sonic landscape, a cast of puppets and performance artists inhabit the space alongside the audience, dissolving the boundary between performer and witness. Alaï’s voice and wooden flute weave through the strings as the whole ensemble conjures an atmosphere of curiosity, presence, and remembrance. Expect to feel something. Expect the unexpected. Expect someone to offer you a grape.
