Belcea Quartet Performs Beethoven String Quartets at Paris Philharmonic
Ωμή, νοσταλγική βραδιά classical performance
221 Av. Jean Jaurès au 6e étage, 75019 Paris, France
The closing concert of this cycle of Beethoven quartets by the Belcea Quartet focuses on late scores: Quartets No. 14 and No. 16. These are preceded by Quartet No. 2, composed some twenty-five years earlier. Among the six quartets of Opus 18, with which the young Beethoven tackled the genre, the light Quartet No. 2 is perhaps the one that most manifests his Mozartian and especially Haydnian lineage. The tone is quite different in Quartets op. 131 and 135, to which the composer dedicated the last fifteen months of his life.
