Ian Shaw: When Bowie Met Joni
Award-winning vocalist and “a true song stylist for our times”, Ian Shaw returns to Ronnie Scott’s for two special nights, reimagining the songs of David Bowie and Joni Mitchell with a full live band. Drawing on brand-new arrangements, Shaw explores two of the most distinctive and enduring songbooks in modern music - artists whose writing reshaped popular music from very different angles, yet often with surprising parallels in emotion, structure and imagination. Having previously dedicated a critically acclaimed album (Drawn to All Things) to Joni Mitchell, Shaw brings a deep personal connection to this repertoire, filtering it through his own unmistakable interpretative style. He is joined by guitarist David Preston alongside his regular trio, for a set that moves between reinvention and homage, shaped for the intimacy and detail of Ronnie Scott’s. Shaw is widely regarded as one of the UK’s leading jazz vocalists, pianist, composer, producer and actor.
