Join us for an intimate listening session with Zahra, exploring the Habibi Funk compilation 'A Selection of Music from Libyan Tapes'. Zahra played a key role in the project, conducting extensive interviews with the featured artists and their families to document the stories and cultural context behind Libya’s musical heritage. This research also resulted in an accompanying 32-page booklet that traces the country's diverse musical landscape and the Afro-influences shaping its sound. During the session, Zahra will discuss the discoveries, research challenges, and personal histories behind this project, offering a window into a musical tradition rarely heard outside Libya. This event is a conversation about archiving, oral history, and cultural preservation.
