Santigold and Dre Skull first connected during a writing session, bonding over their mutual love for Reggae and Afro-Caribbean sounds. Dre Skull, a versatile producer and founder of Mixpak Records known for his work in dancehall and electronic music, became a key creative collaborator for Santi. What began as an exploration for a mixtape evolved into a ten-track project titled I Don't Want: The Gold Fire Sessions, completed over the course of two weeks.
