Dark Blue & Lucian Nagy Solo

The Armenian Union of Romania – Timisoara Branch and Jazz Updates present a fascinating encounter between the unmistakable timbre of the Armenian duduk, improvisational freedom, and contemporary jazz. Extraordinary baritone saxophonist Alex Harding and Transylvanian-born pianist Lucian Ban, who have been at the forefront of contemporary jazz for over two decades, present their DARK BLUE project. Their partnership has produced a remarkable body of work including albums like Somethin’ Holy and Premonition, and their Lumination ensemble was previously voted Best Show of the Year by All About Jazz NY. The evening opens with a solo performance by Lucian Nagy, a versatile saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist known for blending jazz with world music, Latin, and experimental influences on instruments like the duduk and Bulgarian caval. The event also features a video projection exploring the art of Armenian letters and their cultural expression, highlighting the deep 1,500-year relationship between the Armenian alphabet and sacred music.
