Melt-Banana is a Japanese avant-garde noise rock band from Tokyo, formed in 1991. The group is widely recognized for the distinctive, soaring vocals of Yasuko Onuki and the experimental, room-filling guitar work of Ichirou Agata. Since their debut, they have built a significant international following through a series of high-energy releases and tours alongside notable acts like the Melvins and Mr. Bungle. Their sound evolved from lo-fi noise rock in the 1990s to more polished but equally intense productions in the 2000s. The band occasionally performs as Melt-Banana Lite, utilizing samplers and synthesizers in place of their traditional guitar-driven setup.
