A premiere by Georg Friedrich Haas, one of the most adventurous composers of our time, is always an event. Tonight, Haas's new Ausschweifen can be heard in the Netherlands for the first time. He wrote it specifically for Ensemble Proton Bern, a Swiss new music group making its debut at the Muziekgebouw. In addition to Haas, Proton plays a new work by Naomi Pinnock, an award-winning British-Swiss composer. Haas’s piece explores microtonality and spectralism, creating a monumental work for eight players that wildly overflows its own banks.
