Learning guitar at age ten, she developed her craft in Austin and New York City, eventually becoming a respected figure in the Greenwich Village folk scene. After contributing vocals to Suzanne Vega's hit "Luka," Colvin launched a successful solo career with her Grammy-winning debut album Steady On. Her breakthrough came in 1996 with A Few Small Repairs, a concept album documenting her marriage's end, which featured the major hit "Sunny Came Home." Throughout her decades-long career, Colvin has maintained a dedicated touring schedule and released numerous acclaimed albums on labels like Columbia and Nonesuch, collaborating with artists such as Emmylou Harris and Alison Krauss.
