Meraki Duo celebrate the launch of their debut album Notes from the Living Room with a special Ronnie Scott’s performance, joined by bassist Roberto Carrillo García for this one-off release show. British flautist Meera Maharaj and guitarist James Girling have spent over a decade building a distinctive musical partnership, blending classical chamber repertoire with influences from jazz, Latin American music and contemporary composition. Their work reflects a shared love of lyrical detail, improvisation and the wide expressive possibilities of flute and guitar. Notes from the Living Room brings together new arrangements and personal interpretations of music by Eleanor Alberga, Dominique Le Gendre, William Grant Still, Miroslav Tadić and Tōru Takemitsu, alongside influences from Brazilian choro, European modernism and the music of Hermeto Pascoal. Intimate and expressive, the album captures the duo’s curiosity and the sense of conversation at the heart of their playing. For this special album launch, Meraki Duo perform the record in full, with Roberto Carrillo García joining for selected pieces, including Alberga’s Animal Banter in its original trio form.
