Formed in 1973 by trumpeter Donald Byrd, The Blackbyrds are definitive figures of the jazz-funk, R&B, and soul era. Comprising talented students from Howard University, the band produced hits like "Walking in Rhythm", "Do It Fluid", and the heavily sampled "Rock Creek Park". Their sound has influenced generations of artists across Brit-funk and hip hop, including De La Soul and Nas. After reforming in 1999 under original drummer Keith Killgo, the band continues to perform globally. The current line-up features original members alongside new talent, maintaining the legacy of one of the most influential bands of the 1970s as they celebrate over 50 years of music.
