noticing a theme in hamaguchi’s work where characters use people as placeholders for what they’re really seeking. but each time he transforms it, and fiction enters, and a decision is made to move forward with this one person in front of you. expectations vanish. what you once desired doesn’t matter anymore because you have something better. or maybe not better, but something that you haven’t already played through in your head. a lesson i need to learn, really. i am too dumb to know what’s best for me. too impractical to form my own conclusions. slowly i am learning to let everything flow through me. leaving room for something mutual.
