ROTTERDAM | Antonio Lizana & Marmoucha Orchestra with Arin Keshishi

A mystical dialogue of music and dance between Andalusia, Iran, and Syria. Inspired by Sufi philosophy, _Carried by the Wind_ revolves around the search for meaning, surrender, and transcendence. Melodies travel on the wind, carried by restless souls. As a child in Cádiz, Antonio Lizana felt drawn to echoes from distant, mysterious places. The music of Ömar Farouk Tekbilek opened the door for him to an unknown world of sounds, a first encounter with undiscovered territory. As bassist in Lizana's quintet, Arin Keshishi has been intimately acquainted with this musical fascination over the past three years. Through countless performances and shared experiences, a deep bond developed between the two, which blossomed into something even greater. Movement is an essential element in their shared journey of discovery. Syrian dancer Ahmad Joudeh tells his story of exile, resilience, and transformation. Inspired by the mystical Sama dance from the Sufi tradition, he transforms movement into an expression of the soul. Like a dervish, Joudeh loses himself in surrender and the rhythm of the music. The Marmoucha Orchestra forms the musical foundation of this project: a place where flamenco and distant melodies converge. This ensemble of top musicians weaves musical traditions from Southwest Asia and North Africa into a new, soulful soundscape.
