Passion for Venice
Between land and water, East and West, splendour and melancholy, spirituality and drama lies Venice: delightful purgatory between many worlds. Here, sparks of innovation repeatedly cluster into high-flying flames. With works by the great Renaissance composer Monteverdi, Les Cris de Paris presents a beautifully passionate program in which sacred and secular music alternate. The various magnificent settings of the Crucifixus are the connecting thread in the programme. Les Cris de Paris from France performs music from the early 16th century to the present. The ensemble previously performed at the Festival d’Automne in Paris, the Wiener Festwochen, and Kunstenfestivaldesarts in Bruges. ‘The singers make a beautifully balanced sound’, in the words of Gramophone Magazine. Renaissance giant Claudio Monteverdi takes centre stage amid Venetian colleagues like Cavalli, Caldara and Lotti, who mark the transition to the Baroque.
