Song for tomorrow
De iconische King’s Singers, al een halve eeuw aan de top, keren terug naar het Muziekgebouw in een spannende samenwerking met het Schotse slagwerkfenomeen Colin Currie. Rode draad in dit hedendaagse programma is de Engelse componist Steve Martland. Zijn krachtige, directe muziek – sterk beïnvloed door Louis Andriessens monumentale minimalisme – is Nederlandse televisiegeschiedenis: het begin van Martlands _Dance Works_ is al bijna dertig jaar de openingstune van het tv programma Buitenhof. In dit programma nemen Colin Currie en de King’s Singers ons mee langs een aantal aansprekende hedendaagse muziekstijlen. Zo klinken er nieuwe stukken van gevierde hedendaagse componisten als de Schot James MacMillan en de Amerikaanse Missy Mazzoli. In Ashita no uta (2020) van Makiko Kinoshita en _Alive_ (2022) van Francesca Amewudah-Rivers klinkt hoop en optimisme door.
