Gen Z Singer Songwriter-events in Utrecht

Emerging in the late 2010s, the Gen Z singer-songwriter genre is defined by artists born between the mid-1990s and early 2010s who leverage digital platforms for DIY distribution. The typical instrumentation blends organic acoustic foundations, such as intimate guitar or piano, with modern bedroom pop production featuring subtle synthesizers and programmed percussion. Characterized by moderate to slow tempos, the mood is predominantly confessional and melancholic, reflecting the specific socio-cultural anxieties and emotional transparency of a digital-native generation. Semantically, it bridges the gap between traditional folk-pop and contemporary indie, prioritizing lyrical authenticity and hyper-relatability over polished studio standards.
