English Version below ...Emil und die Detektive (2026)Emil and the DetectivesIm Zug beklaut, in Berlin verbündet. A fast-paced detective chase across Berlin—full of wit, courage, and true friendship."Emil and the Detectives" is a detective film by David Dietl, starring Nicholas Jonah Peter and Merlin Sandmeyer.Emil Tischbein (Nicholas Jonah Peter) is traveling by train to Berlin to spend the summer holidays with his grandmother. He is carrying a large sum of money intended for her. However, along the way, the boy encounters the devious criminal Max Grundeis (Merlin Sandmeyer), who steals the cash. Emil isn't about to let that slide; he sets out on the con artist's trail, a pursuit that leads him all across the German capital.Count me in 🙋 ... I’m always up for an Erich Kästner adaptation. The kid detective squad:• Nicholas Jonah Peter (as Emil Tischbein): He makes his big-screen debut in the title role as the brave boy from the countryside—though one who is initially a bit behind the times when it comes to technology.• Lara Toni Lüdders (as Pony): She plays the quick-witted daughter of the grandmother’s Berlin neighbor; she immediately steps in to help Emil (and, in this version, is no longer his cousin).• Bela Louis Plass (as Dienstag): He takes on the role of the tech-savvy "Dienstag" (Tuesday). Unlike in the book, he doesn't man a landline phone but coordinates the detective chase via smartphone.• Kilian Kasa (as Gustav): The resolute leader of the Berlin street kids.• Ai Vy Bui (as Anh) & Camille Loup Moltzen (as Jason): They round out the detective team, reflecting the modern mix of Berlin. For most of the young actors, this adventure marks their first major appearance on the big screen. They were all between 12 and 13 years old during filming. This time around, the timeless story has been given a thoroughly modern update. The successful, savvy use of tools like e-scooters, smartphones, and GPS tracking fits perfectly with the lifestyle of today's Berlin city kids. There is plenty of fresh, youthful energy in this adventure, too. Adults definitely play only supporting roles here; aside from the truly nasty creep Grundeis, the focus is mostly on the ever-growing gang of amateur kid detectives. Despite the many modern elements, this "latest Emil" also incorporates almost all the classic features of the famous original story—from the hallucinogenic train dream sequence (induced by sedation) and the night spent under the open sky above Berlin's rooftops, to the incredible number of Berlin kids aged 5 to 15 who chase down and corner the crook. The big showdown is a classic Grundeis-versus-Tischbein affair. 🤭 Interestingly, the titular Emil doesn't come across as modernized at first... initially, he is portrayed as a naive mama's boy with no real friends and—heaven forbid—no smartphone or WhatsApp, since he only owns a basic "kids' phone"... 😇 Mom: "You really shouldn't worry about my worries..." Emil, initially an outsider because he lacks a smartphone, demonstrates in a modern way that solidarity and genuine friendship matter more than being digitally reachable. Ultimately, the story plays out, and justice prevails with a happy ending... all's well that ends well. So then—PASSWORD: EMIL! 🔎🕵🏼♂️🕵♀️🔍 I quite enjoyed this return trip to Emil's world; the younger target audience will likely delight in the modern look and feel and the "hip" music.
