Marvel built a multimillion dollar movie franchise around the wrong Iron Man in my humble opinion
Imagine that Luis Buñuel and David Lynch had intense homosexual encounters in a cheap motel in Tokyo under the influence of hallucinogens. Imagine that, after that, both (yes, both) conceived a single son. Finally, imagine that the aforementioned son made a movie and that every single scene in that movie was directed by him when he had an orgasm smoking opium. That's Tetsuo, the true Iron Man, so the hell with the Marvel character. Tsukamoto takes us back to the early surrealism nightmares of Un Chien Andalou (1929), L'Âge d'Or (1930) and Eraserhead (1977), and makes a strange fusion of such elements with cyberpunk themes influenced by Akira (1988) and MTV music videos, displaying a "plot" with an unconceivably energetic and unstoppable pace. Believe it or not, Tetsuo inspired countless of future Japanese cyberpunk pieces (including Cronenberg), but this is the measure to measure the rest of attempts to construct a masterpiece so unique that your head will explode. Never before had the merging between a urbanized technological social structure and the bare human flesh had been displayed so lunatically in movies. Warning: This is not idealized entertainment. This is in-your-face shock splatter, and this movie makes my day very happy :)98/100
Possibly the closest cinema has ever come to capturing a migraine on film.
