Action!-The March of the (3) Rogers: B Is For CormanBefore becoming a counterculture legend, Peter Fonda starred in this biker-themed coming-of-age drama that plays out more like a Tennessee Williams or Elia Kazan drama than the renowned picture.Fonda's charming yet stern demeanor makes him stand out rather immediately. It's true that many of his threats come off as silly and more amusing than menacing. That speech, which has been often used, is also compelling, both for the script and for Fonda's performance. Nancy Sinatra is not so much a superb actress as she is an artist, but she did a good job as this love interest who acts as our protagonist's moral compass in many ways.My main issue is that, while the screenplay is full of great ideas and the premise is intriguing, I believe the execution is a little sloppy. The film held my interest at points and lost it at others. All in all, though the premise by this time feels a little cliched, if you enjoy seeing Fonda as a counterculture symbol and a biker brawling with others while being charming, this is worth a watch.TODAY SCHEDULEThe Rachel PapersThe Tomb of LigeiaThe Wild AngelsAmbulance
We wanna be free! We wanna be free to do what we wanna do. We wanna be free to ride! We wanna be free to ride our machines without being hassled by The Man. And we wanna get loaded. And we wanna have a good time. And that's what we're gonna do. We are gonna have a good time. We are gonna have a party. The legacy of this film comes down to three things: Laura Dern being conceived on set, Peter Fonda coming up with the idea of Easy Rider during filming, and then trying to get Nancy Sinatra to take LSD. Fun times. A solid Bikerploitation with a stacked cast that would play a vital role in the counter culture movement. Roger Corman is in the directing chair, telling a realistic depiction of life in a biker gang. No glorification here, senseless violence, Dianne Ladd being the victim of multiple rapes, while her beloved boyfriend is propped up in a coffin, Weekend at Bernie's style. All that fun stuff. No wonder the Hells Angels tried to sue him! The more films I see directed by Corman, the more I rate him as a director. Having such a pool of talent to choose from certainly helped. Fonda just oozes cool from his every pour, and if this film leaves you with nothing else, it’s just what a cool dude he was. Way too cool for anyone else in this. He comes across as extremely irritated with everyone else for not being at his level of cool, even Nancy Sintara gets on his nerves - maybe that was because she was way too square and had no interest in tripping off her tits and waking up in an airing cupboard? In the end, it’s more of an important film than a good one. The nazi imagery will be a hard sell for most. Hangout Movies
