Awon

Awon is a talented Hip Hop recording artist hailing from Newport News, Virginia, but originally from Brooklyn, New York. Known for his unique and innovative approach to music, Awon is known for his experimentation with jazz, soul, and other sub-genres. Along with Phoniks, Awon is one half of the dynamic duo Awon & Phoniks, who have four albums under their belts and a loyal fan base worldwide. In 2015, Awon and Phoniks founded Don't Sleep Records, their own imprint, and have released countless critically acclaimed titles with various artists and frequent collaborators. Their journey was captured in the documentary film Underdogs, directed by Teó Frank, which won best Music Documentary at the DTLA film festival in October of 2018. The film also received acclaim at The Hip Hop Film Festival NYC, where it received nominations for both best documentary and best director, ultimately winning the award for best documentary. Underdogs premiered on Netflix and Redbull in December 2019 and was received warmly by critics. Currently, Awon remains prolific releasing Sublime, Golden Era 2, and Odyssey Disco in the span of one year. He is married to the recording artist Tiff the Gift, a frequent collaborator, and they share three children. Awon and his family currently reside in Northern Virginia.
