Olivier Rocabois

After two decades spent in basements and dive bars, Olivier Rocabois showed his face in 2021 when he released his solo debut "Olivier Rocabois Goes Too Far". He then rode the tiger and went straight back to the studio to record "The Pleasure Is Goldmine" EP (2022). Oscillating between post-Pepper mazy song structures and Hunky/Ziggy flamboyance, the French tunesmith sings hymns celebrating domestic bliss and existential angst. Having spawned the Glam Baroque movement, this fake anarchist (and former law student) writes pocket symphonies inspired by the unsettled weather of his native Brittany. The latest LP "The Afternoon of our Lives" (2024) is a collection of 11 songs describing the slow disintegration of a human body and the self-liberation of a bald and chubby 50-year-old man who found solace in music and love. The album is clearly split in two different strokes: the A side tells the tale of a carefree, happy-go-lucky ex-party animal whose sense of wonder has remained evergreen. Whereas the flipside leads you through the most hazardous regions of a troubled mind: the very superstitious and pessimistic solitary son has become a man obsessed with fetishism and nostalgia.
