About

For much of their career, Grandbrothers turned a limitation into inspiration. Across four acclaimed albums, pianist Erol Sarp and engineer Lukas Vogel created captivating music using only one instrument: the grand piano. Combining Sarp’s background in jazz piano with Vogel’s engineering skills, they developed custom devices to manipulate the piano’s sound, blurring the lines between classical, ambient, and minimal techno. But after recording Late Reflections (2023) inside Cologne Cathedral, they felt the need to evolve. What once felt liberating now seemed limiting. “It was a good time to open that up,” says Sarp. Elsewhere (out September 26 via their own label, and others) marks a bold new chapter—introducing analog synths, drum samples, and deep electronic textures, while retaining their emotional core. The album draws from UK garage, IDM, and festival energy, with tracks like “We Collide” and “Velvet Roads” bridging their acoustic roots with a new, rhythm-driven sound. Their live shows, too, are evolving—now built for standing crowds and immersive experiences. With Elsewhere, Grandbrothers reinvent their sound and spirit—letting go of old rules to rediscover the joy of creation.
