Seagull & Ventura

Seagull & Ventura is a blues duo. But they use the blues only as a starting point and the basic mood of their songs, because the music of singer and trumpeter Kat Seagull and guitarist Frank Ventura moves beyond classic blues or blues-rock conventions and opens itself to other sonic worlds. The trumpet alone creates a natural affinity with jazz, while a pronounced love of melody, atmosphere, and melancholy reveals clear influences from dream pop and shoegaze. The songs are carried by a dreamy, often dark mood, without losing any clarity or expressiveness. Sources of inspiration range from Billie Holiday and Nina Simone to Portishead and Mazzy Starr. The result is a connection of timeless depth, emotional intimacy, and modern sonic aesthetics. Despite all the melancholy, Seagull & Ventura don't come across as heavy or melodramatic live: lightness and direct communication with the audience are integral parts of their performances.
