Embracing a DIY attitude and “mystery-girl” image, Sophie is self-produced, self-taught, and an aesthete at heart. Settling upon a horror-inspired faux last name (in the style of Rosemary Woodhouse) upon deciding to upload her home-recorded songs in 2021, her music offers both an inviting softness and the depth of a diary: Wistful, shadowy, and authentic. The young American artist shows no signs of slowing down, aiming always for dreaminess — No matter the genre. Following a stream of ethereal moments within her first EPs to the fuller-rounded sound of Dear Diary, Sophie’s newest release, Natural Blonde, is her unique interpretation of bygone eras, grain-soaked films, and a girls’ whispers amidst the winds of the cities and canyons. Balanced by swirling guitars and smooth beats, its darker elements take a softer turn towards the albums’ end, offering the conclusion of love found true. It is Sophie’s most experimental-yet-cohesive production to date: Shimmering, enticing, and forever-sweet.
