Watra
A homegrown spoken word artist.
Introducing to you Pearl Dumfries also known for her artistic name WATRA meaning water in her mother’s tongue. She was born in Amsterdam, raised in Aruba and has Surinamese-Haitian roots. Next to her degree and passion in being a Social Pedagogical Worker; WATRA is a multilingual Vocalist, Songwriter and Composer. WATRA has always been surrounded by culturally rich environments. This inspired her to write multilingual lyrics at the age of 11. Growing up in a musical household melodies were overflowing in her head as she creates accompanied by her guitar with R&B, Soul and Jazz influences. In her musical journey she has composed and recorded music. Also performing original work in various events and festivals such as The Bon Bini Festival Fort Zoutman, The Caribbean Sea Jazz Festival, Aruba's Soul Beach Music Festival and many more. Grateful for the lessons and memories of composing and sharing a stage with (self taught/professional) musicians and many creatives. Participating as a teacher in the Summer Music & Performance camp(Aruba, 2021) has fueled her passion and purpose even more. Currently she composes music for personalized projects and is developing a songwriting program to empower a healthy and creative outlet within the youth of Aruba.
