A nostalgic, underground nu disco artist.
The first single from Loveletter (11/04/22), "Pan Am Flight 1701" first was heard on British airwaves via the BBC 6 show featuring Khruangbin as the Khru took a “Tour of Houston” on Mar 14, 2021, and shared songs from Houston musical citizens. It is in Houston that DJ Sun (current resident) and Fat Tony (former resident and native Houstonian) crossed paths many years ago. The promise of once collaborating materialized when DJ Sun invited Fat Tony to be a part of The Loveletter Orchestra performance in the Summer of 2022 by providing guest vocals on the instrumental. A trip to the studio ensured that his vocal delivery could be immortalized and be available for the rest of the world to enjoy beyond the sold-out audience witnessing an amazingly energetic performance. Fat Tony, no stranger to genre bending in his music fits right at home on this Lo-Fi Housey track produced with all the 70s/80s sentiments that DJ Sun is known to conjure up in his production. A positive message delivered with a timeless aesthetic: enjoy! NEW ALBUM “LOVELETTER” OUT NOVEMBER 4, 2022; Rooted in an upbringing in Rotterdam and Suriname, Sun’s work and creative edge are steeped in diverse musical influences. “One Hundred” which has been described as music with “organic breaks borrowed from the back rooms of the finest vinyl archives” lends credence to this diversity.
DJ Sun plays a warm blend of nu disco, downtempo, and lo-fi house deeply rooted in 1970s and 1980s analog funk sensibilities.
