A stylish, underground art pop artist.
Elizabete Balčus is a Latvian singer, flutist, electronic artist and performer whose work spams a vast range of surprising, collaged, genre juxtapositions that is simultaneously melodic and experimental. Her music offers immersion in a richly-imaginative parallel reality. Hotel Universe , the second solo album by Elizabete Balčus (via Montreal based label Mothland), is crafted in a way that offers access to a new worldview – one which posits collective consciousness over the idea of the individual. The surreal pop long-player takes the listener on a sonic odyssey that is hypnotic and mesmerising, immersive and enchanting. Synth textures intertwine with echoing flute and an ethereal voice in celebrating the body as a meta, whether in its simple organic form or through its otherworldly celestial implications. Despite being predominantly a one-woman powerhouse – writing and recording everything herself – the few moments of collaboration on her second album do stand out. Narcissism Purgatory features an inspired percussive contribution from English comedian @James Acaster. While, Simonas Šipavičius aka Sheep Effect plays sax on Get Naked and Asparagus Or Brussels Sprouts? – resulting in one of the Baltic States’ most potent coming together of woodwind instrumentalists in an age.
Elizabete Balčus creates neo-psychedelic art pop and experimental electronica, combining looping flute arrangements, ethereal vocals, and unique self-made instruments.
