Endive

Endive was a five-piece indie/punk/emotional hardcore band from Indianapolis, Indiana, active 1993-1996. Originally formed as a three-piece, the band consisted of Jason Hayes Beehler, Jason Cole Mager, and Dean Josph Maglinte. In December 1993, the trio reached out to Stacy Lynn Novak, inviting her to relocate to Indianapolis to take on vocal duties. With her addition, Endive was formed in earnest. Over the next six months, the band focused on writing new material and playing shows across the Midwest. In the summer of 1994, they were booked for a festival where they met Anthony Reitz, whose band Phalanx was playing their final show. Reitz joined Endive as second guitarist shortly after, completing the lineup. In August of 1994, the five-piece traveled east to record at Brian McTernan’s newly built studio in Bethesda, Maryland. McTernan, formerly of Ashes, helped the band record a five-song demo, which they used to secure bookings outside the Midwest. During the next year, the band played a number of memorable shows in the Midwest and on the East Coast, building up a loyal following. Riding on strong momentum in 1995, Endive entered Sonic Iguana to record 7 songs for their debut LP. Shortly after, Beehler left to attend university and was replaced by Jonathon Russell Harmon (of Birthright), who would later contribute to recordings. As their musical direction and personal interests began to evolve, the band decided to amicably part ways in the fall of 1996.
