Ilona Damięcka

Ilona Damięcka is a Polish pianist, vocalist, and composer who has developed a deeply personal musical language rooted in improvisation, lyrical expression, and emotional storytelling. A graduate of the Academy of Music in Katowice, she moves freely between contemporary jazz, composition, and vocal expression, where sensitivity, space, and atmosphere are as important as sound itself. Her artistic world has been shaped by musicians such as Charles Lloyd, Shirley Horn, and Tomasz Stańko — artists known for intimacy, emotional depth, and openness to improvisation. These influences are present in her work, where silence, subtlety, and expressive freedom play a central role. Ilona has collaborated with leading figures of the Polish jazz scene, including Janusz Muniak, Jan “Ptaszyn” Wróblewski, Henryk and Michał Miśkiewicz, Piotr Wojtasik, Maciej Sikała, and Mateusz Smoczyński, as well as musicians from Denmark and Italy. In 2023, she became the first pianist-vocalist in Polish jazz history to perform with a big band at the Jazzonalia Festival in Konin. She has released five albums, including Hurry Up and Hope, which reflect her intimate, spacious, and emotionally nuanced sound. On stage and in recordings, she is known for expressive piano playing and a warm vocal tone that creates a direct connection with listeners. Rather than fitting a single genre, Ilona Damięcka shapes her own artistic world — open, expressive, and deeply human.
