A polished, nostalgic classical act.
The Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava (JPO), one of the leading Czech orchestras, has opened itself up to the international scene in the last few years. Abroad, the orchestra’s goal is to promote Czech music, and it specializes in the Czech repertoire; in its hometown the orchestra is keen to introduce the best and most interesting pieces of the world repertoire performed by top soloists and conductors. The orchestra is regularly invited to other countries (recently e.g. to the United States, Korea, China, Germany, Austria), and it holds concerts with young stars as well as with well-known soloists and conductors from all around the world. Its repertoire ranges from the classics of music to the unexplored works of recent years. Since the summer of 2022, the former Vesmír cinema has become the home stage of the Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava. Consequently, the JPO temporarily left its long-standing venue at the House of Culture in Ostrava, which was closed last year for several years of extensive renovations.
Janáčkova filharmonie Ostrava performs classical orchestral music, specializing in traditional Czech repertoire by composers like Leoš Janáček, Antonín Dvořák, and Bedřich Smetana.
The orchestra is based in Ostrava, Czech Republic, performing at prominent local venues including the Vesmír cinema and the House of Culture.
