Josephine Pia Wild

The music of Josephine Pia Wild is a breath held at dawn — intimate and expansive, gentle and powerful. At the crossroads of minimalist folk, chamber pop, and neo-classical, her songs draw the listener into spaces of quiet intensity and emotional truth. After the early loss of her mother, she received a handpan just days after the funeral. Marking a personal and artistic turning point, the instrument became a catalyst — allowing her to reconnect with expression, curiosity, and her voice, in all its subtlety and singular tone. She composes to transform silence into sound, honoring the women in her lineage. Her name — Pia from her mother, Wild from her grandmother — is a tribute and reclamation. In 2018, she received the Andrée Chedid Prize for her musical setting of the poem Multiple, which led to her debut EP Multiple (2024), praised by Radio FIP, Les Inrocks and Tsugi. On stage, she offers a rare and magnetic presence — gentle, grounded, and deeply moving. Each performance becomes a collective journey, a suspended moment where music opens a space for shared resonance. Now based in Berlin, she has just released her debut album Nightfall, I Surrender to You (2025) — an intimate journey through grief, poetry, and the search for a new breath. Somewhere between Hania Rani, Björk, and Sufjan Stevens, Josephine makes vulnerability her first language, and inherited silence a living material.
