Ovrkast. is an Oakland-born rapper, producer, and songwriter whose rise has been shaped by patient evolution and the Bay Area’s deeply rooted sense of independence. Influenced by the lineage of J Dilla and Madlib, he developed a jazz-influenced, sample-heavy sound that gradually expanded his reach through collaborations and word of mouth, leading to placements with Drake, Earl Sweatshirt, and MAVI. Beyond music, Ovrkast. has built a fully self-sufficient creative practice, writing and producing his own work while directing visuals through his self-established production company, Angr Management. Before moving to New York, Ovrkast. taught beat production to high school students in Oakland. The relocation didn’t change his sound so much as sharpen it — New York brought a wider circle of collaborators and a renewed confidence in his artistic direction. Beginning with Try Again in 2020, followed by 2023’s RESET! and his collaborative EP with Cardo, KAST GOT WINGS in 2024, Ovrkast. developed a diaristic, meditative rap voice that matched the depth of his production. That progression evolved further with his 2025 breakout sophomore album, While The Iron Is Hot. The project marked a turning point in both reach and artistic clarity.
