The sound of Samson Philipps resides in a nebulous nu-jazz space and draws on elements from psychedelic jazz, drum and bass, funk, trip hop and ambient. It is driven by acoustic drums and complemented by analog drum machine elements, underpinned by warm, booming Moog Prodigy basses, carried by Moog Prophet 6 synth pads, and playfully adorned with the shimmering Rhodes. Their sound exclusively relies on analog sound generation. The duo consists of Samuel Schmassmann (drums) and Philipp Bucholtz (keys). The two friends are jazz and music aficionados and share the stage with many a project. For instance, Philipp often accompanies Samuel in his solo-project S. C. Samson.
