An underground synthpop act.
Named after a telephone-dating service, telekura is a Dublin-based collective born from a shared love for a maximalist ‘more is more’ sound. Founded by Stephen Purcell and Rachel Tan - two neighbours who cycled past each other daily but made music exclusively apart - the band has evolved into a creative partnership with Liam Brady on drums and Risa Hanamoto on synths. The telekura sound is a vivid anomaly: a fusion of acid-soaked electronica and technicolor psych-pop that draws from every era without being tethered to one. This unplaceable sound is something even the press has noted, calling them “Weird and Wonderful” (Hot Press) and “Unorthordox” (RTE). They’ve been championed by Spotify and the Irish press, and were one of just 50 showcasing bands at Ireland Music Week 2025.
Telekura plays an unorthodox fusion of acid-soaked electronica and technicolor psych-pop infused with 90s-tinged indie sensibilities.
The Dublin-based collective features Stephen Purcell, Rachel Tan, Liam Brady, and Risa Hanamoto.
