An underground classical night.
Benjamin Britten's War Requiem is a profound memorial to the dead and a denunciation of the madness of war, serving as a tribute to all its victims. Composed in 1962 for the consecration of the rebuilt Coventry Cathedral, the work is a masterpiece of reconciliation and absolution. It features an massive ensemble including three vocal soloists, large chorus, children's chorus, organ, and two orchestras. The score audaciously intertwines the Latin Requiem Mass with the moving poetry of Wilfred Owen, creating an alchemy of immense spiritual and emotional power.
