Strauss's late-career concerto, written for the same orchestral scale as Beethoven's Seventh, captures a similar spirit of refined beauty. The program also features Wagner's Overture to Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, conducted by Philippe Jordan with soloist Felipe Freitas.
